Iran Grab Deaflympic Football Silver
MELBOURNE, Australia, Jan. 16-- Iran took a silver medal as it finished runner-up in the football competitions of the 20th Deaflympic Games here Sunday, IRNA reported.
Iran, which came from 1-0 down in Olympic Park, was stunned in the additional time by Britain that grabbed the winner with a free-kick awarded by the linesman.
Britain's opener came on 47 minutes following a goalkeeping blunder by Akbar Sadeqi, who quit the woodwork and let Steven Gardener's high-flighted cross find the net after hitting the far post.
Although Iran, due to expulsion of Hossein-Ali Mohammadi, was forced to play with 10 men in the last 10 minutes, top marksman Asghar Tohidlou leveled the match two minutes from normal time.
Two minutes into stoppage time, the linesman told the Australian referee that Iranian keeper had carried the ball beyond the area limit before punting.
The Aussie awarded a free-kick to the British, which wrapped up a last-gasp victory with a deflected shot from Lee Farer.

PARIS, Jan. 16--Two goals in the last six minutes gave Olympique Lyon a 2-0 home win over Metz and kept them six points clear at the top of Ligue 1 on Saturday, Reuters said.
Lyon, the only unbeaten team, are on 45 points with Lille staying second after a 3-1 win at Girondins Bordeaux. Monaco are third, nine points adrift, after crushing Caen 5-2.
Against a Metz side bunched in defence, Brazilian midfielder Juninho broke the deadlock in the 84th minute with a curled free kick which left goalkeeper Gregory Wimbee stranded.
Three minutes later, Wimbee could do nothing to stop a stinging shot into the far corner by Bryan Bergougnoux.
Lille, who were out for revenge at Bordeaux after suffering their first home defeat against Olympique Marseille on Wednesday, opened the scoring in the first minute through 19-year-old Mathieu Debuchy.
The Bordeaux supporters were silenced one minute before the break when striker Philippe Brunel scored Lille's second and they began to leave the stadium after Johan Audel added the third nine minutes from time.
Marouane Chamakh restored some of Bordeaux's pride with a consolation goal five minutes from time.
Monaco also were quick to assert their superiority over Caen as striker Mohamed Kallon scored in the seventh minute.
Cyrille Watier equalised against the run of play with a 30-meter free kick into the far corner just past the half hour but South Americans Douglas Maicon and Javier Saviola sealed Monaco's victory before halftime.
Kallon converted a penalty five minutes after the break, recording a double which took him to the top of the scorers table with 10 goals.
Jaroslav Plazil made it 5-1 in the 80th minute before Sebastien Mazure scored Caen's second in the dying seconds.
Monaco reclaimed third place one point above AJ Auxerre who defeated 10-man Sochaux 2-0 in the early game.
Paris St Germain were held to a goalless draw at home by Toulouse
Toulouse moved up to fifth with a better goal difference than Marseille.

Inter Held By Reggina
ROME, Jan. 16--Inter Milan's pursuit of Serie A leaders Juventus stuttered on Saturday when they were held to a 0-0 draw by Reggina, Reuters said.
The result ended Inter's run of three consecutive victories and left them fourth in the division with 31 points from 19 games, 12 behind Juventus.
Inter made a lively start and home keeper Nicola Pavarini had to be alert to beat away early efforts by striker Christian Vieri and midfielder Giorgios Karagounis.
Reggina were limited to playing on the break and midfielder Shunsuke Nakamura wasted their best chance before the interval when he scuffed his shot on the edge of the area.
They came out in more determined mood after the restart, forcing Giuseppe Favalli to outjump Carlos Parades to cut out a dangerous cross at the far post.
The 68th-minute sending-off of Reggina midfielder Giuseppe Colucci for a clumsy tackle on Karagounis, however, swung the match back the visitors' way.
With 20 minutes remaining Inter coach Roberto Mancini sent on striker Obafemi Martins, who scored a hat-trick in an Italian Cup match against Bologna in midweek, in an attempt to break the deadlock.
Instead, it was Reggina who went closest to grabbing a winner when Giovanni Tedesco crashed a shot off the post from outside the area 15 minutes from time.
In an earlier match, Brescia and Fiorentina failed to reverse poor recent Serie A form with a 1-1 draw.

DAKAR, Senegal,
Jan. 16--Stephane Peterhansel and Cyril Despres successfully negotiated the last major stage of the Dakar rally on Saturday to be almost certain of taking the car and motorcycle titles respectively, Reuters said.
Peterhansel, starting the day with a substantial cushion of almost half an hour, cruised from Tambacounda to Dakar to finish fifth in the 15th stage won by South African Giniel de Villiers.
The Frenchman won last year's car race after claiming the motorbike title six times. He now has a lead of 27 minutes and 13 seconds over compatriot and fellow Mitsubishi driver Luc Alphand with only a short stage on Sunday to go.
"I'm very tired but happy to be here because we've done nearly 8,000 km and when you arrive here by the sea in Dakar, it's a real pleasure," Peterhansel said after rolling over the line at a luxury hotel in the Senegalese capital.
"I'm just a little nervous now because the race is not finished," he said. "Everything can happen tomorrow morning on the small stage so we are confident but it's not finished."
After a tough race marked by the death of two motorbike riders, competitors were reunited with family and friends in Dakar and welcomed with a display of traditional African dancing and drumming.
However, Despres said he could not truly savour the moment after the death of KTM team mate Fabrizio Meoni during the race.
the Italian, twice winner of the rally, died of a heart attack following a crash in Mauritania on Tuesday.
Spanish rider Jose Manuel Perez died on Monday after falling during the seventh stage on January 6.
French rider Despres said he was also deeply affected by the death of compatriot and team mate Richard Sainct, a three-times Dakar winner killed in the Pharaohs Rally in Egypt in September.
He leads the standings by 9:45, despite collecting a nine-minute penalty on Friday evening for speeding.
