Louvre Reviews Persian Painting
The French Louvre Museum has published the results of its latest research on Persian painting during the 16th and 17th centuries AD.
According to ISNA, the extensive study includes a preface, a detailed description of different classical painting styles as well as the physiognomy of the artworks.

Samples of classical Persian painting
A section of the research reads: “One of the specific characteristics of classical Persian painting is the accrual of picturesque details.
Viewers can thus admire a scene as a whole, or allow their gaze to wander inside it, from one detail to another. Moreover, this wealth of detail--stemming from the meticulous observation of nature--is often rich in literary allusions.“
Anyone observing Persian painting should bear in mind that such works were most often intended to illustrate manuscripts--usually literary texts. The illustrations of literary or historical manuscripts invite viewers to a world of elegance. Many scenes are set in gardens which often are palace courtyards.

Yahya Fiouzi
An exhibition of artworks by noted Iranian painter and architect Yahya Fiouzi is underway at Niavaran Cultural Complex.
The exhibit, titled ’Beyond Numbers, Magic Squares, Paintings and Sketches’, has on display 100 artworks based on numbers and the design of magic squares, said Niavaran’s Public Relations Office in a fax to Iran Daily.
The event’s inaugural ceremony on Friday was attended by several artists, including prominent sculptor Parviz Tanavoli and surrealist painter Iran Darroudi.
Speaking at the event, Tanavoli said, “I have been waiting so long to see Fiouzi’s works.“
He commended Fiouzi’s creations as being at par with works of international quality.
Darroudi, whose retrospective is currently underway at Tehran Museum of Contemporary Arts, also said, “Fiouzi is a ’contemporary Khayyam’ in terms of his mastery of the science of numbers.“
She added, “His works captivate the visitors. They are so intellectually stimulating that they remind one of his/her own creative mind and inspire us to discover what a wonderful universe each of us have within ourselves.“
Fiouzi also said that his works are capable of communicating with children and helping them turn the complicated world of mathematics into one of the most beautiful and lucid forms of knowledge.
The exhibition will run until May 30.

A cultural foundation named after the distinguished Iranian professor of international relations and communications, Hamid Molana will soon be launched.
This was announced at a ceremony to commemorate the scholar at Iran Cultural Press Institute (ICPI) on Thursday.
According to the Persian Daily ’Iran’, Molana announced at the event that he will hand over all his documents and notes from the past 50 years to the foundation.
Molana, a professor of International Relations and the founding director of International Communication Program at the School of International Service, American University, Washington D.C., said, “The foundation will serve as an educational and research entity to release findings of cultural studies as well as to promote public knowledge.“
Stressing that the foundation will also seek to promote intercultural interactions, Molana called on media experts to cooperate in this respect.
The ceremony was organized by the School of Media Studies affiliated to IRNA in cooperation with ICPI which publishes Iran Daily.

Eight Iranian films are to be screened in the Fourth International Shoot Me Film Festival slated for June 16-22 in The Hague.
The international event has allocated a special program to the Middle East and will screen a variety of films from the region, including eight films from Iran, presstv reported.
These include ’The Other Side of Cinema’, directed by Arash Abbasi, ’Angels Die on Earth’ by Babak Amini, ’The Border’ by Sattar Chamani-Gol, ’Tehran 318’ by Souran Mardoukhi and ’Wind Blows in the Alley’ by Diako Yazdani.

’W’ Could Embarrass Blair
A forthcoming biopic of George W Bush from director Oliver Stone will portray Tony Blair as an ardent admirer who falls for the US president’s Southern charm.
In a film which could prove embarrassing for the former prime minister, the two men will be shown bonding over their shared Christian faith in the run-up to the Iraq war, AFP reported.
Welsh actor Ioan Gruffudd will play Mr Blair, with Josh Brolin as Mr Bush and British actress Thandie Newton as Condoleezza Rice, the US secretary of state.
The movie, ’W’, which follows Mr Bush from the ages of 20-58 and charts his transformation from a party-loving frat boy to a president leading his country into war, is set for release in October. Stone has denied that the film will poke fun at Mr Bush, claiming instead that it will take his conversion to Christianity seriously and show that he is an immensely personable character--as demonstrated by his friendship with Mr Blair.
“In the South, one of the reasons they like him is for his sense of family and his commitment to his faith. Those factors make him a very decent human being in the eyes of many,“ Stone told Screen International magazine.
“Tony Blair for one fell for him and liked him a lot. Blair was a very sophisticated man and look what happened--he was a big fan of George Bush. In fact, he has since declared his Catholicism,“ he said.
