An official said the incumbent Majlis Speaker Gholamali Haddad Adel and Ali Larijani, an MP for Qom, have agreed to present their plans for the post of speaker in the conservatives-dominated assembly.
Hossein Fadaei, secretary-general of the Society of Islamic Revolution’s Sacrificers, also told Mehr News Agency on Sunday that an agreement between the two will be an ideal situation, but in case of their disagreement the conservative faction will take the decision.
“The faction will hold two meetings on this issue. The first session will be held before the end of the Seventh Majlis tenure and the second will be held on the first working day of the Eighth Majlis,“ he said.

Fadaei said Mohammad Reza Bahonar, Mohammad Hassan Abutorabi, Asadollah Badamchian, Shahabeddin Sadr and Hassan Ghafourifard are candidates for the post of vice speaker.
Asked why Larijani was not invited to the society’s congress held recently in Tehran, he said, “We invited both Haddad and Larijani, but Larijani did not show up.“
Commenting on the absence of President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad in the congress, Fadaei said, “We do not want the president to represent any political faction, but he is among the society’s founding members.“

US Soldier Expelled For Qur’an Sacrilege
A US soldier has been expelled from his unit and sent from Iraq for shooting a Qur’an, the Muslim holy book, during target practice, the American military said on Sunday.
The unidentified soldier was disciplined after Iraqi police discovered the Qur’an with bullet holes and graffiti inside its cover last week at a firing range on the outskirts of Baghdad, the military was quoted as saying by AFP.
“The soldier in question is being disciplined due to his actions in shooting a Qur’an,“ a US military official said. “We hold all of our soldiers fully accountable for their actions.“
US military spokesman, Colonel Bill Buckner, said they viewed the incident “as both serious and deeply troubling,“ but stressed it was an “isolated incident and a result of one soldier’s actions“.
“Coalition commanders have since briefed local leaders on the results of the investigation and expressed their deep regret,“ Buckner said. “They have also undertaken disciplinary action against the soldier who was involved and he has been removed from Iraq.“
It was not immediately clear if any other action had been taken against the soldier after Iraqi police brought the issue to the notice of the US military authorities.
“This incident is not representative of the professionalism of our soldiers or the respect they have for all faiths,“ the US military said in a statement.
There was no immediate reaction from Iraqi religious leaders or the government of Prime Minister Nuri Al-Malki.

Perspec
Double Standards
By Armin Hedayati
Iran’s Intelligence Ministry has revealed new aspects of the US-sponsored terrorism in the Islamic Republic.
A statement on Saturday said Iranian security officials have dismantled a terrorist network funded by the US. It noted that, based on firm evidence, the US provided the group with chemicals, explosives, weapons, cyanide and other terrorist devices.
The US-supported terrorist cell was busted on May 7, as terrorists had planned to bomb crowded events such as the International Tehran Book Fair and cultural and religious places in major Iranian cities. The arrested culprits have confessed their affiliation to US spy agencies that also trained them how to blow up Iran’s oil pipelines.
Resorting to illegal measures to terrorize Iran is indicative of the double standards of the enemy in attempting to prevent Iran from moving on the track of national development.
Since the 1979 Islamic Revolution, the US government has supported vicious terrorist acts against Iran. Several high-ranking Iranian political and religious officials were assassinated at the very onset of the revolution’s victory.
The US government is directly underwriting the Mujahideen Khalq OrganizationÑa terrorist groupÑto act against Iran. Americans are also trying to use the soils of Iraq and Afghanistan for training terrorists to act against Iran.
After the 9/11 attacks in 2001, the US introduced itself as the frontrunner in the war on terror. This is while American terrorist actions against Iran, Cuba and Latin American nations are evident of the US double standards.
The capture of US agents in Iran is another blow to the White House whose leaders have revealed their willingness to resort to any anti-humanitarian measure, including terrorism, to achieve their political goals and manipulate the world public opinion about the true nature of the war on terror.
