’Shams National Day’ Proposal Okayed
A day will be named after the renowned Iranian poet Shams Tabrizi.
Announcing this, deputy interior minister for social affairs, Hojjatollah Ayyoubi, said, “A proposal to the effect was approved in a recent session of Tehran’s Public Culture Council.“
He added that the implementation of the plan should be followed up by Molana and Shams Foundation which was launched last week in Khoy, West Azarbaijan province, ISNA said.
The official announced that a congress on Shams, who was the mentor of the renowned Iranian mystic and poet Molana Jalaleddin Rumi, is scheduled for June 27 at UNESCO’s general assembly auditorium.
The one-day event, organized by Shams Foundation, will include lectures in the morning and cultural programs in the evening.
“The day Molana first became acquainted with Shams is of great significance to the world. Thus, the congress is titled ’The Visit of Shams’,“ he noted.
Ayyoubi further said that an international call-up has been issued for constructing Shams mausoleum in Khoy.
Khoy is home to a 3,000-year civilization and Shams’ mausoleum in the city would be a great national asset for all Iranians.

Cinema Museum an Asset

Cinema Museum, a showcase for the history of Iranian cinema, features over 1,000 international awards granted to Iranian artists.

Tehran’s Cinema Museum is a cultural and artistic asset for the capital.
Ahmad Masjed Jamei, head of Tehran City Council’s Cultural Commission, made the above statement during a visit to the museum on the occasion of Cultural Heritage Week (May 18-24), Fars New Agency reported.
Announcing the council’s readiness to help expand the museum, the official called on Tehran Municipality officials to expedite the completion of the museum’s second hall.
Mohammad Hassan Pezeshk, deputy culture and Islamic guidance minister for cinema affairs, who was also present at the event, referred to the limited floor space allocated to the museum and proposed that the municipality relocate the museum to a suitable venue for maintaining documents on Iranian cinema as well as organizing exhibitions.
Members of the museum’s board of directors, including veteran actor Ezzatollah Entezami, Ahmadreza Garshasb and Saei Bektash, were also present during the visit.
The seven-hall museum, with a library and a documents center, is a showcase for the history of Iranian cinema industry. It also features over 1,000 international awards granted to Iranian artists.

on May 21 in Iran.
Born in Shiraz
in 1572, the scholar
is considered
the most important
and influential
philosopher of the Muslim world
in the last 400 years.
His school of
philosophy is
called ÔTranscendental TheosophyÕ.
Molla SadraÕs
residence is located
in the village of Kahak, Qom province, while his resting place
is in Iraq.

Call for Safeguarding Cultural Heritage
President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad on Tuesday underlined the need for safeguarding Iran’s cultural heritage.
Addressing the officials and staff of Golestan Cultural Complex, the president praised grandeur of Iran’s culture and art, IRNA reported.
“No one has the right to damage Iran’s cultural heritage,“ he said.
Ahmadinejad also called for introducing the country’s cultural heritage to all people inside and outside Iran.
He condemned efforts to smuggle Iran’s valuable cultural heritage artifacts.
Accompanied by the head of Iran’s Cultural Heritage, Handicrafts and Tourism Organization, Esfandiar Rahim-Mashaei, the president inspected various parts of the museum on the third day of Cultural Heritage Week (May 18-24).
Ahmadinejad also inaugurated the complex’s Anthropology museum which has been renovated.
Maraghi Congress Planned
The First International Congress on Abd Al-Qadir Maraghi, a renowned 19th century Iranian musician, will be held in Tehran and Tabriz, East Azarbaijan province from May 25-29.
The five-day event aims to introduce music-oriented traditions of the past and present, reported IRNA.
The congress is jointly organized by Iran Arts Academy, Ministry of Culture and Islamic Guidance, Islamic Republic of Iran Broadcasting (IRIB), Tabriz University and Maragheh Municipality.
Maraghi, who was born in Maragheh, East Azarbaijan province in mid-19th century, was skilled at music and painting.
His famous works include including ’Jami Al-Alhan’ and ’Maqasid Al-Alhan’.
Int’l Bodies to Honor Calligraphist
Prominent Iranian calligrapher Jalil Rasouli will be commemorated in a ceremony organized by the UNESCO office in Tehran, the International Council of Museums (ICOM), and the Committee of Iranian Luminaries at Saadabad Cultural Complex on Wednesday.
The event has been organized as part of programs to mark Cultural Heritage Week (May 18-24), said Public Relations Office of Tehran Contemporary Arts Museum in a fax to Iran Daily.
An exhibition of calligraphy works by Rasouli opened on Friday at the complex’s Fine Arts Museum.
The event has on display Rasouli’s 40 tableaux, featuring poems by renowned Persian poets Molana Jalaleddin Rumi and Abolqasem Ferdowsi, designed in calligraphy styles ’Nastaliq’ and ’Shekasteh’.
Mahmoud Shalouei, director general of Culture and Islamic Guidance Ministry’s Visual Arts Department, who visited Rasouli’s exhibit on Sunday, said, “Rasouli is amongst the best Iranian calligraphists whose works are inspired by spiritual concepts. Many of his works feature Qur’anic verses.“
Short Film Festival in Bam
The Eighth Short Film Festival will be held in Bam, Kerman province on June 14.
Mohammad Ali Joushaei, head of Bam Culture and Islamic Guidance Office, told IRNA that the new generation of Iranian filmmakers will feature works, including short films, photos, posters and screenplays at the event.
He added that so far 250 works have been submitted to event’s secretariat. “The participants have been given a free hand in selecting topics, and it is predicted that over 400 works will participate in the four-day event,“ he said.
Referring to the festival’s peripheral programs, he said that film screening, tour of the city’s historical monuments as well as art exhibitions are on the agenda.
Those interested have until June 4 to submit their works to the festival’s secretariat.
