Haerizadeh's tableau 'Razm'
For the first time, the distinguished Saatchi Gallery in London has bought two paintings by Iranian artist Rokneddin Haerizadeh.
The works, titled ÔDagger DanceÕ and ÔTypical Iranian WeddingÕ will be put on display in an upcoming exhibition named ÔAltered Perspectives in PaintingÕ.
The event will showcase works by 50 artists from across the world, Fars News Agency reported.
The two works as well as a tableaux ÔRazmÕ are currently on show at the galleryÕs website.
Haerizadeh is a winner of the 6th Tehran Painting Biennial. His works were displayed at the 41st Art Cologne in Germany. He has so far held eight foreign and domestic exhibitions.
The Saatchi Gallery aims to provide an innovative forum for contemporary art presenting works by largely unseen young artists.
The gallery has worked with media sponsors including ÔThe ObserverÕ and ÔThe SundayÕ on a number of shows.

Director Donates Awards to Cinema Museum

Veteran Iranian director Kiumars Pourahmad donated a collection of awards, screenplays and memorabilia to the Cinema Museum on Saturday.
The collection includes 29 plaques of honor, four honorary diplomas, and his screenplays, letters and film props.
The Jury Grand Prize of the Asia Pacific Screen Awards (APSA) 2007, which Pourahmad won for ÔNight BusÕ, is among the films donated, MNA reported.
He also presented statuettes which he won at international galas and Crystal Simorghs he won at numerous editions of the Fajr International Film Festival to the museum.
In a letter attached to his donation, he wrote that after a filmmakerÕs death, the screenplays, notes and letters are inherited by their relatives although they have no use for them.
ÒI decided to donate this collection to the museum for preservation and to make it available to academics for research.Ó
Pourahmad asked other cineastes to donate their awards and memorabilia to help enrich the Cinema Museum of Iran.
Iranian directors Rakhshan Bani-Etemad, Yadollah Samadi, and Rasoul Sadr-Ameli have also donated collections of their awards, screenplays, books, and film props to the museum.

London Hosts Congress on Imam

A congress to commemorate the late Imam Khomeini was held Saturday in London on the threshold of the 19th anniversary of the demise of the father of Islamic Revolution (June 3).
Speaking at the event ÔImamÕs Legacy: Religion and PolicyÕ, Ali Mohammad Helmi, Iranian cultural attachŽ in London said that the meeting seeks to review the works and thoughts of Imam Khomeini as viewed from the policies and governance advocated by the late leader, IRNA reported.
ÒUndoubtedly the ImamÕs ideologies influenced many schools of thoughts in and outside Iran,Ó he said.
He added that the great scholar was a valuable asset for the entire world and the more one delves into his thoughts, the more they observe his eminence.
ÔIslam and DemocracyÕ, ÔGovernment from ImamÕs PerspectiveÕ, ÔSpirituality in the Materialistic WorldÕ, were among the topics of discussion at the event which was held in cooperation with Iranian Cultural Center in London.

Iran-Greece Cultural Center Planned
Iran has signed a memorandum of understanding with Greece to establish a joint center for cultural studies.
According to IRNA, the MoU, which was signed between IranÕs Cultural Heritage, Handicrafts and Tourism Organization and the National Hellenic Research Foundation, aims to expand scientific and cultural ties between the two countries.
Under the agreement, both sides will cooperate in the fields of archaeology, epigraphy, numismatics, preservation and restoration of historical monuments.
The document also calls for holding joint seminars and conferences on related issues.

Artists to Attend ÔTirganÕ Festival

A group of Iranian artists will take part in the four-day ÔCelebrating TirganÕ art festival in CanadaÕs cultural capital of Toronto.
Renowned artists in the fields of music, theater, cinema and visual arts will participate in the event which commemorates the ancient Iranian festival of Tirgan, Fars News Agency reported.
Mohammad Reza Lotfi, a noted traditional sting instrument ÔTarÕ player, accompanied by the Sheida ensemble will perform at the gala.
Noted filmmakers, including Rakhshan Bani-Etemad, Abbas Kiarostami and Nasser Taqvaei will also attend the event. Iraj KarimiÕs ÔMagic GenerationÕ, Khosrow SinaeiÕs ÔSongs of SilenceÕ, Dariush MehrjoueiÕs ÔPear TreeÕ will be screened at the festival.
Visual artists Aidin Aghdashlou and Gholamhossein Nami will deliver speeches at the event sponsored by Iranian-Canadian Center for Arts and Culture which is scheduled for July 17-20. Tiregan is an ancient Iranian rain festival observed on July 1. It is one of the three most widely celebrated feasts among the Iranians along with Norouz (new year) and Mehrgan (autumn equinox).

Persian Manuscripts on Turkish Website
Handwritten copies of works by renowned Persian poets, including Sheikh Mosleheddin SaÕdi Shirazi, Abolqasem Ferdowsi and Molana Jalaleddin Rumi will be uploaded at the website of the Turkish and Islamic Arts Museum in Istanbul.
According to Fars News Agency, the website will also feature manuscripts of works by Muslim thinkers Imam Mohammad Ghazali and Mohieddin Ibn Arabi.
Over 2,000 manuscripts are being maintained at the museum. They include copies of the holy QurÕan and calligraphy works by noted artists, including Ahmed Karahisari.
Meanwhile, Istanbul Municipality recently held the First International Congress on Ibn Arabi.
Iranian scholars, including Shahram Pazouki and Qasem Kakaei, were among the 17 lecturers at the event.
