File photo shows Iranian basketball players celebrating victory.
Following National Basketball Association (NBA) invitation for Iran’s basketball team, the team will fly to Utah, US. According to ISNA, Iran who qualified for the 2008 Olympic Games will take part in the 17-game event.
Its national team will be playing in its first Olympic men’s basketball tourney since 1948.
A game between the Jazz and the Olympic-qualified Iranian National Team highlight the schedule for this month’s Rocky Mountain Revue summer league.
The other is the Iranian team that qualified for the upcoming Summer Olympics in China by winning last year’s FIBA Asia Championship in Japan.
The Jazz-Iran game will be played on July 21. Iran will play one other Revue game, against Dallas on July 19.
It will mark the first time a non-NBA team will play in the Revue since 1996, when the schedule included a Jazz loss to the French national team in which now-retired Jazz center Greg Ostertag posted a 14-point, 10-rebound double-double.
Other NBA teams in the field: Atlanta, Golden State, New Jersey and San Antonio.
Utah’s first Revue game is scheduled for July 18 against San Antonio Spurs.

Inter Right to Target Lampard

Frank Lampard
Italy under-21 coach Gianfranco Zola has said that Frank Lampard would be an excellent signing for league champions Inter Milan.
The pair played together for two years at Chelsea and having seen his quality at close quarters, Zola knows exactly what type of player the San Siro side will be buying.
“Frank is unique in the world,“ he told La Gazzetta Sportiva.
“A midfielder who can score 20 goals in the championship. The fans should know that he is not a spectacular player, but a winner.“
Should Lampard make the move to San Siro then Zola believes that he will be playing for one of the best coaches in the modern game in Jose Mourinho.
Whilst the ex-Napoli and Parma striker missed out by a year on playing under the Portuguese, he has heard enough first-hand reports to know that Mourinho can be a success in Italy.
“Mourinho loves messing around, but when it comes to work he is a bulldozer. With Mourinho you only work with the ball, which is loved by players,“ he said.
With the Beijing Olympic Games fast approaching Zola is hopeful that Italy, whose first match is against Honduras on August 7, can improve on the bronze medal they won in Athens four years ago.
To that end he has big hopes for former Manchester United and Newcastle United striker Giuseppe Rossi, who hit 11 goals to help Villarreal to second place in the Spanish league last season.
“Giuseppe Rossi is a phenomenon and our (Lionel) Messi. He has class, knows where the goal is and makes a difference. Plus he’s still young,“ he said.

Valencia Eyeing Aragones

Luis Aragones
Valencia’s new executive director Juan Villalonga has offered Spanish coach Luis Aragones, who earlier this month joined Turkish club Fenerbahce after leading Spain to victory in Euro 2008, a two-year contract, a newspaper reported on Monday.
An agreement between the two sides could be reached “over the coming hours“, Spanish sports daily Marca reported without citing sources.
Aragones, who is approaching his 70th birthday, signed a two-year contract with Fenerbahce but Marca said he can break it without paying a penalty.
The incumbent Valencia coach Unai Emery, who was appointed in May, will be fired, it added.
Aragones, a former Spanish international, became the oldest coach to win the European title when Spain beat Germany 1-0, clinching their second title after the first in 1964. He became national team coach in 2004.
Villalonga, a former president of Spanish telecoms giant Telefonica, took control of Valencia last week.
Valencia, the winners of the Spanish league in 2002 and 2004, finished in 10th place last season in La Liga, 34 points behind the winners Real Madrid but will take part in the UEFA Cup next season since they won the Spanish Cup.
The club had four coaches last year: Quique Sanchez Flores, Oscar Fernandez, Ronald Koeman and Salvador Gonzalez “Voro“.

Casey Stoner
MotoGP world champion Casey Stoner secured his third successive victory after winning a rain-soaked German Grand Prix on Sunday.
The Australian overcame sickness as well as the poor conditions to finish 3.708 seconds ahead of former champion Valentino Rossi of Italy, who regained the overall lead in the standings from Spaniard Dani Pedrosa who bowed out early in the race.
Australian Chris Vermeulen clinched third spot, 14.002 seconds behind Stoner after a tight race to the line with San Marino’s Alex de Angelis.
“I’ve been feeling sick since yesterday morning,“ a groggy-looking Stoner told the BBC. I was struggling with my concentration levels and it wasn’t getting any better today. Those conditions were very, very hard. I was losing it and aquaplaning in a lot of places so I was lucky to come out of that one on the bike, let alone win the race,“
Stoner started in pole position but was left trailing in the opening stages by Pedrosa.
Pedrosa appeared to make light work of the wet track to open up a gap of more than six seconds over the chasing pack before sliding off at the start of the sixth lap.
Stoner capitalized to retake the lead and hold off Rossi for the remaining 25 laps.
With eight races remaining, Rossi leads Pedrosa by 16 points with Stoner third, a further four points behind.

Iran will participate in the event with eight men and women rowers. The senior regatta sees nearly 300 athletes competing in eight events, Mehr News Agency reported.

About 55 countries with more than 300 boats will race in the competitions.

Gold for Samimi
In Morocco Athletics Grand Prix, Abbas Samimi, Iran discus thrower, with 62.87-meter throw, took gold medal.
Ehsan Mohajer Shojaei, Iran’s sprinter in the 2008 Olympic Games, stands sixth by beating the clock of 1.47 minute. Iran’s athletic joint camp will be held on July 10-August 13 in Tehran’s Azadi Stadium, Mehr News Agency reported.

Zidane is the Best
110046.jpg
Former England captain David Beckham claimed on Sunday that his ex-Real Madrid teammate, Zinedine Zidane, is the best player of all time.
The 33-year-old Englishman told sports daily Marca that it had been a dream come true to play alongside Zidane for three years at Real, AFP said.
“To train with Zidane for three years (2003-06) was a dream,“ confessed Beckham, who has been capped over 100 times by his country. For me he is the greatest player of all time,“ Beckam added.
Beckham, who is now playing for the Los Angeles Galaxy, also believed that the best Spanish player at the moment is Barcelona’s playmaker Xavi, who inspired Spain to the Euro 2008 title last month and was judged player of the tournament.
However, Beckham also thinks that goalkeeper Iker Casillas, who he knows from his time at Real, should be awarded world player of the year after several outstanding performances at the Euro.
Beckham also denied he wished to become an actor even though he is living in Hollywood but that he would like to return to Madrid - where he still has a house - one day and work with the youth side at Real.

Kuruvchi Signs Eto’o
110043.jpg
Kuruvchi, AFC Champions League quarterfinalists from Uzbekistan, have signed Barcelona’s Cameroonian star Samuel Eto’o, according to an announcement on their official website.
The Uzbek club managed to rope in Eto’o for a six-month spell which will cover their AFC Champions League quarterfinal campaign when they go up against Iran’s Saipa.
“The striker will arrive in Tashkent on July 17th and play in the second half of the championship (league) in Uzbekistan,“ said the statement.
Eto’o’s first game for Mirdjalol Kasimov’s side is likely to be their Uzbekistan Cup fixture on July 22 against Dynamo Samarqand.
The website noted that Eto’o’s presence would be of the “greatest benefit“ to Kuruvchi as they mount a challenge for the continental honors.
Kuruvchi, who are currently leading the local league standings ahead of Pakhtakor, qualified for the last eight of the AFC Champions League from a tough group comprising last year’s runners-up Sepahan of Iran, twice champions Al Ittihad of Saudi Arabia and Syrian outfit Al Ittihad.

Confidence Over Injured Evans
110049.jpg
Leading Tour de France contender Cadel Evans avoided serious injury in a heavy crash during Sunday’s ninth stage.
The Australian suffered cuts and bruises down his left side but allayed fears that he had broken his left shoulder in the fall, BBC said.
Marc Sargeant, Lotto’s team director, said: “The doctor assured us that it is not fractured. It’s hurting him, but he was the first to say ’It’s OK guys’.“
Evans is in second place, six seconds behind overall Tour leader Kim Kirchen.
He managed to get back on his bike and finish Sunday’s stage in 23rd without losing any time despite his injuries.
As Evans crossed the finish line, he screamed at his bodyguard to “make sure nobody touches my left shoulder“ as camera crews swarmed around him.
Tour race doctor Gerard Porte, who treated the 31-year-old, said he has multiple cuts on the shoulder, elbow, hips, knees, but they are not too deep.“
However, Porte added: “Cadel is worried as he wonders whether he can climb (the mountains) properly. Then there are the side effects with recurring pain.“
Evans and the rest of the field face a daunting 10th stage from Pau to Hautacam in the Pyrenees on Monday, including two hors categorie climbs.
