People’s Role in Nation’s Affairs Underlined
The Leader of the Islamic Revolution Ayatollah Seyyed Ali Khamenei on Monday lauded the determining and outstanding role played by the people in different arenas in Iran.
Addressing a group of Iranian donors in Tehran, Ayatollah Khamenei said people have played a determining role in all important arenas, including politics, economy, health, culture and education, Fars News Agency reported.
“The principle of the Islamic Revolution was also based on this popular presence, and if people had not stepped into the arena of role-playing, politicians and political streams would not have been able to do anything,” the Leader noted.
The Leader said people’s health care and treatment should be on top priority of the government.
People’s role in supporting charity organizations is very significant, stated Ayatollah Khamenei, urging officials concerned to remove obstacles to expansion of medical services to people.
Ayatollah Khamenei on many occasions has underlined the strong public support for the Islamic establishment, and warned that enemies are making nonstop efforts to undermine people’s trust in the ruling system.
In the latest move to show support for the Islamic Republic, Iranians from different walks of life came to the polling stations in large numbers on March 2, 2012 to determine the fate of the country’s legislative body for the next four years.
Over 48 million Iranian voters were eligible to cast their ballots, and the final estimates showed that 64% of them have been present at the polling stations.
The American and European reporters and journalists who had come to Iran to cover the elections were astonished by the high level of public participation at the polling stations.
The foreign journalists were astounded after they witnessed large crowds of people queuing at the polling stations even hours before voting officially started.

15 People Killed in Iraq Blasts
Bombings across Iraq killed 15 people and wounded at least another 24 on Monday, officials said -- the latest apparent attacks by militants aimed at undermining security and confidence in the government.
The deadliest blasts were in the town of Musayyib some 60 kilometers (40 miles) south of the capital, where militants planted bombs around two houses, one belonging to a police officer. Two women and two children aged 11 and 14 along with three men were killed, while three others were wounded in the pre-dawn blasts, a police officer said, AP reported.
In the city of Hillah, a parked car bomb exploded in a busy street where local government offices are located, killing three people and wounding 21, another police officer said. He said some Shiite pilgrims were there making their way to the nearby city of Karbala to mark the 7th century death of the Prophet Muhammad’s grandson and the third Shiite Imam Hussein (PBUH).
He didn’t say how many pilgrims were among the casualties. Hillah is about 95 kilometers (60 miles) south of Baghdad.
Two doctors confirmed the casualty figures. All officials spoke on condition of anonymity as they were not authorized to release information. Also Monday, four policemen were killed in the northern city of Kirkuk while trying to defuse a bomb the center of the city, according to police Col. Taha Salaheddin. Kirkuk is 290 kilometers (180 miles) north of Baghdad.
And another a policeman was killed when a bomb hit a police convoy in the town of Tuz Khormato, 210 kilometers (130 miles) north of Baghdad, said the provincial spokesman of Salahuddin province, Mohammed al-Asi.
Although violence has ebbed since the height of the insurgency in the past, some groups presumed to be primarily extremists are still able to launch lethal attacks nationwide against government officials or civilians.
Renewable Energy An Economic Force
Compiled by Zahra A’rabi
As the global energy demand continues to rise and governments invest further in renewable sources, the sustainable energy industry is emerging as an economic powerhouse.
It is not just the development of alternative energy sources, like solar, wind, geothermal or hydropower, that is driving this spectacular industry growth; domestic sustainability and green jobs are all playing a major role in the sector’s rapid expansion, Arab News reported.
The REN21 Renewables 2012 Global Status Report, the sister publication of the Renewables Global Futures Report, which will be launched during the World Future Energy Summit in Abu Dhabi during Jan. 15-17, highlights over $257 billion were invested in renewable energy in 2011. About 200 million homes worldwide now collect solar hot water, and globally there are 5 million jobs created in renewable energy industries.
These are significant numbers, which make the new exhibition features at the Sixth World Future Energy Summit (WFES 2013), hosted by Masdar, Abu Dhabi’s multi-faceted renewable energy company, so crucial to the continued growth of the sector. “With the World Future Energy Summit confirming its position as the world’s foremost event for the sustainability sector, we want to keep adding more value for the 30,000 people expected to attend,” said Naji El-Haddad, show director for WFES 2013.
Latest Version of Missiles, Torpedoes Test-Fired
Navy forces have successfully test-fired the latest version of the indigenous surface-to-air missile Ra’d (Thunder) and state-of-the-art torpedoes by hitting and destroying targets on the fourth day of the ongoing Velayat-91 military maneuvers.
Rear Admiral Amir Rastegari, the spokesman for the drill, said on Monday that the latest version of the surface-to-air missile was test-fired on the fourth day of the naval drill.
Rastegari added that Ra’d had been modified by Iranian Navy experts and installed on warships.
The Iranian Navy also successfully launched its indigenous short-range cruise missile dubbed Nasr (Victory) on the fourth day of the major military exercises.
According to Iran’s Defense Minister, Ahmad Vahidi, Nasr cruise missile, which can destroy vessels of up to 3,000 tons, can be launched from both inland bases and offshore military vessels.
New features will be added to the missile in the near future so that it can also be launched from helicopters and submarines, Vahidi added.
Iran’s Navy launched six-day naval maneuvers on December 28 in order to display the country’s capabilities in defending its maritime borders.
“The specialized maritime maneuver, codenamed Velayat-91, will be held east of the Strait of Hormuz in the Sea of Oman and north of the Indian Ocean as far as the 18th parallel north,” Iran’s Navy Commander Rear Admiral Habibollah Sayyari said earlier.
Happy New Year
If you are able to read my article, then for sure you were able to go through year 2012 which was predicted to be the last year of the world in the Maya calendar. And though this is a Christian calendar year, many people in the world considered it to be the end too. All religions somehow believe that the world will end, but the time is not known.
As a common belief, all believe that good people will go to heaven and bad people will go to hell.
It is impossible to find two human beings who think exactly the same. So how can we find groups of people or countries who share same minds? The biggest problem all around history of mankind was that human beings wanted to force others to think as they do. The greed, specially the economic greed, has always been the cause of wars and human disasters. It seems some people forget that human beings are mortal and that even if they gather all money of the world, they should only hope that their deed in the mortal life was to the level they may enter heaven in their next life.
