Leader Rejects Talks With US Under Pressure
Leader of the Islamic Revolution Ayatollah Seyyed Ali Khamenei has rejected any talks with the United States under pressure and threats.
“I am not a diplomat. I am a revolutionary and speak frankly, honestly, and firmly. An offer of talks makes sense only when the side [that makes the offer] shows its goodwill,” Ayatollah Khamenei said in a meeting with the officials and commanders of Iran’s Air Force on Thursday.
“Negotiation is meaningful when the two sides hold talks with goodwill, under equal conditions and without seeking to deceive each other. Therefore, ‘negotiation for the sake of negotiation’, ‘tactical negotiation’ and negotiation offer in order to sell a superpower’s gesture to the world is a deceptive move’, ISNA quoted the Leader as saying.
Ayatollah Khamenei also noted that during the past four years, nothing has been seen from the United States but continuation of conspiracies, abetting seditionists and supporting the terrorists which assassinated Iranian scientists.
“You (the Americans) point the gun at Iran and say either negotiations or we pull the trigger! You should know that pressure and negotiations do not go together, and the [Iranian] nation will not be intimidated by such things.”
Ayatollah Khamenei pointed to the remarks by US officials that ‘the ball is now in Iran’s court’, and noted, “The ball is in your court, because you should answer the question of whether speaking of negotiations while concurrently continuing pressure and threats makes any sense at all.”
The Leader pointed out, however, that, “We, of course, understand their (the Americans’) need for negotiations, because the Middle East policy of the Americans has failed, and in order to compensate for this failure, they need to play a trump card.”
Taking Iran to the negotiating table is the trump card that the US needs, Ayatollah Khamenei noted, adding that the US seeks to tell the world it has good will. “However, no one sees any goodwill.”
“Negotiation with the United States does not solve any problem because they have not fulfilled any of their promises in the past 60 years.”
Referring to the conspiracies by the enemies of Iran including coups, military provocation, all-out support for the aggressor enemies, hard war, soft war, intense pressure by the West’s evil media empire as well as harsh and increasing sanctions, Ayatollah Khamenei pointed out that for the past 30 years the enemies have tried to make Iranian nation disappointed with the Islamic Republic, but they have failed.
The Leader further stressed that the Iranian nation will castigate anybody who would renounce national interests, sovereignty and progress of the country in order to satisfy the United States. Speaking at the 49th annual Munich Security Conference in Germany on February 2, US Vice President Joe Biden said Washington was ready to hold direct talks with Iran over the country’s nuclear energy program.
The United States, the Israeli regime and some of their allies have repeatedly accused Iran of pursuing non-civilian objectives in its nuclear energy program.
Iran argues that as a signatory to the nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty (NPT) and a member of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA), it is entitled to develop and acquire nuclear technology for peaceful purposes.
Oman Frees 28 Iranian Fishermen
Twenty-eight Iranian fishermen who had been arrested by Oman’s Coast Guard for illegally entering the Arab country’s territorial waters have been released and are back in Iran.
The fishermen were released as a result of serious follow-ups by Iranian Embassy officials in Muscat and the cooperation of Omani officials, Press TV reported on Saturday.
They returned home on Friday after going through legal proceedings and appearing in court.
The Iranian Embassy in Muscat has been seriously pursing the issue of Iranian nationals in Oman as well as fishermen who unintentionally entered Oman’s waters.
Iran and Oman both have coastlines along the Sea of Oman. For some time Iranian fishermen due to various reasons such as unfamiliarity with sea borders and lack of clear border demarcations, illegally enter the waters of Persian Gulf Arab countries, especially Qatar.
Tehran, Ankara Cooperation in Anti-Crime Fight Vital
Turkey’s Interior Minister Muammer Guler said Tehran and Ankara should continue to cooperate in the fight against organized crime and terrorism.
The newly-appointed Turkish minister made the remark in a meeting with Iran’s Ambassador to Ankara Bahman Hosseinpour on Saturday, IRNA reported.
Guler also pointed to the cultural and historical commonalities between Iran and Turkey, noting that enemies seek to harm Tehran-Ankara relations and it is necessary for both sides to safeguard the existing strong ties.
The Turkish minister further expressed interest in expert-level meetings between Iran and Turkey with regards to the two countries’ cooperation in fighting against organized crime and terrorism.
The Iranian envoy, for his part, expressed hope that relations between Tehran and Ankara would further expand during his term in office. Hosseinpour also extended an invitation to Guler to visit Iran to meet the country’s officials and follow up on the implementation of the agreements between the two neighboring states.

Meanwhile, deputy head of the Industry and Research Institute of the Iranian Defense Ministry, Mohammad Eslami said Saturday Iran is among the top five countries in the world possessing drone technology.
The deputy defense minister said on Friday that the country is also among the ‘top ten countries in the world’ in most fields of military sector.
The Defense Ministry official added that the Islamic Republic is currently designing and manufacturing some 20 unmanned aerial vehicles, which are categorized in terms of the range and altitude of flights. The long-range UAVs are ‘strategic’, Eslami explained.
He pointed to Iran’s experience of manufacturing short-range drones and added that the country is currently mass producing UAVs with a range of 200 kilometers.
Eslami said the latest Iranian long-range strategic drone may be unveiled on May 24.
Latest Air-to-Air MissileTest-Fired
Deputy Defense Minister Brigadier General Seyyed Mehdi Farahi said the latest indigenous air-to-air missile, Fakour (Wise) 90, has been successfully tested by Iranian forces.
Farahi, who is also the director of the Defense Ministry’s Aerospace Organization, said on Sunday that the missile is launched from F14 fighter jets, Fars News Agency reported.
“Qader (Capable) and Nasr (Victory) air-launched cruise missiles will also be tested in the coming days,” the commander added.
Over the past years, Iran has made important breakthroughs in its defense sector and attained self-sufficiency in the production of important military equipment and systems.
On January 1, Iranian forces tested the indigenous Nour (Light) surface-to-surface missile during the Velayat 91 naval maneuvers.
The Navy launched the six-day naval drills on December 28 in order to display the country’s capabilities in defending its maritime borders.
The latest version of the indigenous surface-to-air missile Ra’ad (Thunder) was also test-fired on December 31, 2012.
In November 2012, Iranian forces tested the indigenous mid-altitude missile system Hog, and the indigenous missile systems of Ya Zahra 3, Safat and Qader.
The Islamic Republic has repeatedly assured other nations, especially its neighbors, that its military might poses no threat to other countries, insisting that its defense doctrine is based on deterrence.
Farahi added that Iran plans to build a satellite carrier, Safir (Ambassador) 1C, and also seeks to place either the Tolou (Dawn) or Zafar (Triumph) satellites into orbit onboard the Simorgh (Phoenix) carrier in the first half of the next Iranian year (starting March 21).
“Today 48 countries have satellites, but only 24 countries are able to build satellites and only eight countries produce satellite carriers and Iran is among them,” Farahi said.
Iran launched its first indigenous satellite, Omid (Hope), in 2009. The Islamic Republic sent its first bio-capsule containing living creatures into space in February 2010, using the domestically manufactured Kavoshgar 3 (Explorer) carrier.
Iran is one of the 24 founding members of the UN Committee on the Peaceful Uses of Outer Space, which was set up in 1959.
Iran, Senegal to Reopen Embassies
Deputy foreign minister for Arab-African affairs says Iran and Senegal are set to reopen embassies in each other’s countries following the resumption of bilateral relations.
“Our country is in the process of sending an ambassador to Dakar,” said Hossein Amir-Abdollahian in a Saturday interview with Mehr News Agency.
He expressed optimism that Dakar would also reopen its embassy in Tehran and appoint an ambassador soon.
“Consultations on resuming the ties between the two countries have been ongoing since the new Senegalese President Macky Sall took office,” Amir-Abdollahian pointed out.
The diplomat hailed the resumption of relations as ‘a significant development in Iran’s relations with a key West African country’, noting that the issue has been widely reflected and welcomed in the Senegalese media. Following a meeting between President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad and Sall on the sidelines of the 12th summit of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation in the Egyptian capital, Cairo, on February 6, the two presidents announced the resumption of bilateral ties, which was severed in 2011, and the reopening of the two countries’ embassies.
Occupation, Assault & Terrorism
Inability of Occupiers in Establishing Security in Iraq
Occupation of countries, including Iraq, has continued for the last three years. Not a day goes by without hundreds of people getting killed in cold blood. The occupiers are incapable of establishing security in Iraq. Despite the establishment of the lawful Government and National Assembly of Iraq, there are covert and overt efforts to heighten insecurity, magnify and aggravate differences within Iraqi society, and instigate civil strife.
There is no indication that the occupiers have the necessary political will to eliminate the sources of instability. Numerous terrorists were apprehended by the Government of Iraq, only to be let loose under various pretexts by the occupiers. Where can the people of Iraq seek refuge, and from whom should the government of Iraq seek justice? Who can ensure Iraq’s security? Insecurity in Iraq affects the entire region.
Occupation, Insecurity, Schism in Nations
They are using various alibis to occupy sovereign nations and cause chaos and divisions, and then use the prevailing situation as an excuse to continue their occupation.
Iraq was occupied under the pretext of overthrowing a dictator and existence of weapons of mass destruction. The Iraqi dictator who had been supported by the same occupiers was disposed of, and no weapons were discovered, but occupation continues under different pretexts.
No day passes without people being killed, wounded or displaced, and occupiers not only refuse to be accountable and ashamed, but speak in a report of a new market for their armaments as the result of their military venture.
They even oppose the constitution, national assembly and the government arising from the votes of the people, while do not even have the courage to declare their defeat and exit Iraq.
Establishing Geopolitical Dominancy in Region
Iraq was attacked under the false pretext of uncovering weapons of mass destruction and overthrowing a dictator. The dictator is toppled and WMDs are not uncovered. A democratic government is established through the votes of the people but, after 6 years, the occupiers are still there. They insist on imposing colonial agreements on the people of Iraq by keeping them under Chapter 7 of the UN Charter.
Millions of people have been killed or displaced, and the occupiers, without a sense of shame, are still seeking to consolidate their position in the political geography of the region and to dominate oil resources. They have no respect for the people of Iraq and disregard any dignity, rights or status for them. The UN is not capable enough to solve the problems and to remove aggression, occupation and imposition.
In Afghanistan, production of narcotics has multiplied since the presence of NATO forces. Domestic conflicts continue. Terrorism is spreading. And innocent people are bombarded on a daily basis in streets, markets, schools and wedding ceremonies.
The people of Afghanistan are the victims of the willingness of NATO member states to dominate the regions surrounding India, China, and South Asia. The Security Council cannot do anything about it because some of these NATO members also happen to be the major decision makers in the Security Council.
In Africa, efforts are made to reestablish the relationships of the colonial era. By starting civil wars in large countries including Sudan, disintegration of those countries is planned in order to serve the interests of some corrupt powers. In case there is a national resistance, the leaders of the resistance are put under pressure through legal mechanisms created by the very same powers.
In Latin America, people find their security, national interests and cultures to be seriously endangered by the menacing shadow of alien domineering governments, and even by the embassies of some empires.
The lives, properties and rights of the people of Georgia and Ossetia and Abkhazia are victims of the tendencies and provocations of NATO and certain western powers, and the underhanded actions of the Zionists.
Islamic Revolution Another Year Older

After this became clear to all the Iranian people, even to those in favor of talks with US, the Iranian leader once again spoke according to Iranian people’s will, putting diplomatic behavior aside and talking plainly. Until American behavior does not change, Iran and Iranians find no interest in talking with the Americans and whatever US officials are claiming are only lies they want to communicate to the world and to their people.
To their concern, the Iranians once again told the Americans in their own word that they are still standing up in support of their government.
FM Due in Russia
Foreign Minister Ali Akbar Salehi is due to visit Russia to attend the 10th Iran-Russia joint economic commission meeting, Iran’s Ambassador to Moscow Reza Sajjadi said on Saturday.
