President of the Islamic Republic of Iran's Medical Council Alireza Zali, a number of prominent surgeons and the professor's family attended the ceremony, which was held in Tehran, IRNA reported.
Zali commemorated the memory of Professor Adl, adding that his school is the prime institution for training Iranian surgeons.
Iraj Fazel, the head of Iranian Association of Surgeons, mentioned Professor Adl's teachings as a valuable investment for Iranians, adding that today Iranian surgery matches the standards of developed countries such that no Iranian needs to go abroad for surgical services.
Professor Adl was born in 1898 in Tabriz and went to France in 1922 after his elementary school. After receiving his PhD in France, he returned to Iran and trained several physicians.
The first heart surgery, spine and other surgeries on stomach are among his achievements.
Prof. Adl passed away on December 25, 2002.
