Persian art show in Ankara

Works by Iranian artists are on display in a group exhibition at the First Art Ankara Contemporary Art Fair in Turkey.

According to ISNA, the event, which runs from March 11-15, is organized by Iranian Art Studio 'Y'.

The first part of the show is devoted to works by graphic designer and photographer Bijan Sayfouri who is considered one of the most important figures of Iranian contemporary art.

The second part exhibits paintings and photographs by noted contemporary artists as well as young talents. They include: Rana Farnoud, Kourosh Qazimorad, Mehrdad Afsari, Farzaneh Qadyanlou, Mehrdad Khataei, Shohreh Mehran, Neda Moin-Afshari and Pouneh Oushidari.

The fair presents 2,000 works by nearly 300 artists. It is organized by ATİS Fair Management in collaboration with the All Art Galleries Association (TÜSGAD) and the United Painters and Sculptors Association (BRHD) at the ATO Congresium Congress and Exhibition Hall.

The manager of the fair, Bilgin Aygül said despite Ankara being the political capital, it had lost its importance in the arts, since it has not held such a fair for many years.

"Our goal is to make the city the center of contemporary art once again. The city is home to many organizations dealing with contemporary art. This is why we organized this fair to support them. We expect more than 40,000 visitors to the fair," he said.
