Quake readiness of Tehran hospitals 80%

Tehran's old hospitals will be reinforced so that they can withstand earthquakes, said the director general of Tehran’s Social Security Organization.

Majid Khosravani Moqaddam added that Tehran hospitals’ readiness stands at 80 percent.

“Tehran’s hospitals have been categorized in three groups of A, B and C in terms of safety,” he said, adding that the hospitals of Shahriar, Eslamshahr, Varamin, Kashani and Labbafinejad Polyclinic fall in Group A.

The official noted that Group A hospitals are prioritized to serve injured persons at times of crisis.

“Hospitals in groups B and C have lower safety standards, which means they must get help from other medical centers and emergency services during crisis times,” he said.

Moqaddam noted that earthquake drills and training programs have been held since past 13 years in provincial medical centers to improve rescue and relief efforts.
