Iran to establish cognitive science lab

Iran will establish a full-fledged laboratory of cognitive science by the end of the Iranian year (March 19, 2016), an official announced.

“Foreign scholarships will be awarded by Iran's Cognitive Sciences and Technologies Council,” Iranian Vice President for Science and Technology Sourena Sattari added on the sidelines of the Sixth International Conference of Cognitive Science (ICCS 2015).

The conference is an international gathering of cognitive scientists from Iran and other countries organized by the Institute for Cognitive Science Studies (ICSS) from April 27 to 29 in Tehran.

The main topics of the conference are cognitive neuroscience, cognitive psychology, cognitive education, cognitive linguistics, philosophy of mind, artificial intelligence and cognitive modeling.

Participants also discussed the latest findings related to aging brain, addiction, electrophysiology, neurocognitive rehabilitation, neuromodulation, neurostimulation, behavioral neuroscience, computational modeling, translational neuroscience, neuroimaging, sleep and cognitive functioning, brain education, executive functions, social cognition and language disorders.

The language of the conference for all communications and submissions is English.

Nazanin Derakhshan,       professor of experimental psychopathology from Birkbeck University of London, Edward Gibson, professor of cognitive science from the Department of Brain and Cognitive Sciences, MIT, Dimitrios Pantazis, research scientist from MIT, Shaun Nichols, professor of philosophy from University of Arizona, Sidarta Ribeiro, professor of neuroscience from Brain Institute, Federal University of Rio Grande do Norte, Majid Nili Ahmadabadi, professor of robotics and intelligent systems from University of Tehran and Vafa Rahimi-Movaghar, professor of neurosurgery from Sina Trauma and Surgery Research Center are keynote speakers.

The previous conference was held in May 2013 in Tehran with the participation of scholars and researchers from Iran as well as Canada, China, Denmark, France, Germany, India, Italy, Japan, South Korea, Britain, Jordan, Lebanon, Malaysia, Pakistan and Romania.
