Dog drives owner's car into swimming pool

A dog drove its owner's truck into a swimming pool after jumping on the accelerator pedal during a journey to the shops.

Caroline, a black labrador, sent the vehicle hurtling into the water after getting a fright, according to its owners Michael and Ruth Smith, wrote.

Michael said Caroline had been sitting in the back during the ride to the shops, but got spooked, causing her to leap into the front footwell.

"When she gets scared, she’ll go down on the floorboard of the truck," Michael told WRAL.

Unfortunately she accidentally pressed down on the accelerator of the Dodge Ram, sending it hurtling out of control.

Ruth, who was driving, said Michael tried to pull the dog off the pedal but couldn't do it in time — with the vehicle smashing through a fence and into the water.

"We were probably going 50 to 55 miles per hour," he said.

“We hit the water and I’m going 'where in the name of God is this water coming from.'”

The pool's owner, John McNamara reportedly said his wife didn't believe him when he told her how the truck ended up in their pool.

Luckily neither Michael nor Ruth were injured in the accident and say they are not blaming Caroline for the mishap.
