IRGC: Military option against Iran a mockery

The commander of Islamic Revolution Guards Corps (IRGC) said the West’s repeated threats against Iran with military option are pure mockery.

“The military option, which the Westerners are constantly talking about, is no more than a mockery, as they know that if the military option against the Islamic Republic of Iran could be effective, they would use it time and again,” Major General Mohammad Ali Jafari added on Thursday, Press TV reported.

Jafari was reacting to US Secretary of State John Kerry and chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, General Martin Dempsey, who said recently that military option is still on the table in dealing with Iran.

The high-profile Iranian commander said the Western powers resorted to "soft war" against Iran because of the futility of military threats.

Jafari noted that Iran faced "serious threats" of military action from 2001 to 2007, adding that the enemies of Iran shifted their approach to destabilizing Iran internally after they failed in their military threats.

He said the formation of a Shia Crescent through empathy among Muslim countries and resistance against oppression and usurpation are all indicative of the realization of the objectives of Iran's 1979 Islamic Revolution.

Jafari said ISIL Takfiri terrorist group was created and other terrorist groups were also mobilized by the "enemies of Islam” to counter Iran's Islamic Revolution.

“They (enemies) could not drop their grudge against Islam and the Islamic Revolution and therefore, they created ISIL,” he said.

“The policy backfired as ISIL threats led to the mobilization of 100,000 youths in Iraq, who fought for Islam and created a huge asset to defend Islam in the region.”

Jafari stated that the only outcome of ISIL crimes in Iraq was more "unity and empathy" between Iran and other countries.

The northern and western parts of Iraq have been in chaos since ISIL started its campaign of terror in early June 2014. The terrorists are in control of Mosul and they have swept through parts of the country.

Since then, Iraq’s Army has been joined by Kurdish forces, as well as Shia and Sunni volunteers in operations to drive the ISIL terrorists out of the areas they seized, with the recapture of the northern city of Tikrit being their most significant recent achievement.
