Blanc credits PSG players for winning Ligue 1

PSG manager Laurent Blanc said he was happy to move out of the spotlight on Saturday after his side was named Ligue 1 for the third consecutive season, saying the players deserve credit for winning the title.

A 2-1 victory at Montpellier gave PSG an eight-point lead over Lyon with one round reaming, and Blanc said it was even more satisfying to winning the league with a game to spare.

“I love watching the scenes of happiness, whether on the pitch or in the dressing rooms,” Blanc said, who has now won the league in both seasons since taking over from Carlo Ancelotti, wrote.

“I have to have distance. It’s the players who are on the pitch, who win the titles. Us, we have a small role. The manager has to be always in the background. It's not up to him to be at the front of the stage.

“I still have as much satisfaction doing this job. I have to thank my staff, because without his staff, a manager is nothing at all.”

Midfielder Anthony Matuidi said PSG’s third title in as many seasons was the hardest to come by, as the capital club fought back and forth with Lyon to top the table.

“This title has a particular taste,” Matuidi said. “It’s the third one, it was more difficult than the others. We were often the chasers this year, we did what we needed to win it.

“We fully deserve this title. We are winners and we have something historic to go hunt for. First we have to savor tonight. PSG showed this season that they are a great team.”
