Iran wins Asian hockey title

Iran defeated Kazakhstan 9-2 in the final of 2015 Asian Indoor Hockey Championships in Almaty, Kazakhstan, on Sunday.

Iranian players established their dominance early and scored the opener in the very first minute of play through Beidad Beiranvand, who piled on another within less than two minutes.

A great performance in defense by Kazakhstan denied the five-time champion Iran on a number of occasions in the first half, but the host could not avoid more goals altogether, asiahockey.org wrote.

After a 4-0 halftime score, Iran netted again just after the break, but Kazakhstan came back with a bang, scoring twice within a minute to make it 5-2. It was all they could do however, and Iran took back control immediately. The Asian powerhouse Iran scored four more goals in the last four minutes of the match.

Iran has participated in and won every single edition of the event so far.

In the bronze medal contest, Uzbekistan downed Qatar 5-3.

Uzbekistan’s Golib Kalandarov with 24 goals was the best goalscorer of the event and is followed by Iranians Navid Taherirad (21 goals) and Abbas Aroei (18 goals) respectively.

Six teams of Iran, Kazakhstan, Kazakhstan B, Qatar, Tajikistan and Uzbekistan took part in the continental showpiece.
