French Senate delegation in to Iran to boost ties

A delegation from the France Senate arrived Tehran on Monday morning, in the latest such visits by the European delegations to Iran.

Majlis Speaker's Advisor for International Affairs Hossein Sheikholeslam said the six-member French delegation led by Daniel Reiner is to meet some Iranian officials, IRNA reported.

The French delegation is visiting Tehran at the invitation of Vice-Chairman of Iran's Majlis National Security and Foreign Policy Commission Ahmad-Reza Dastgheyb.

During their four-day stay in Iran, the delegation are planned to meet Dastgheyb, Deputy Foreign minister for Euro-American Affairs Majid Takht-e Ravanchi and Deputy Foreign Minister for Asia-Pacific Affairs Ebrahim Rahimpour.

They are also scheduled to travel to historical province of Isfahan in center of Iran on Wednesday and Thursday.

The visit came days after a European Parliament delegation paid a two-day official visit to the country and held talks with the Iranian officials.

The eight-strong delegation, headed by Chairman of the European Parliament’s Committee on Foreign Affairs Elmar Brok, arrived in Tehran on Saturday.

The visit came at the invitation of Chairman of the Majlis' National Security and Foreign Policy Committee Alaeddin Boroujerdi.

The European delegation held separate talks with Boroujerdi, Majlis Speaker Ali Larijani and Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif.
