Iranian saffron exported to 47 countries

Head of Saffron Export Union Gholamreza Miri said on Wednesday that the Islamic Republic exports high quality saffron to 47 countries.

He noted that Iran produces more saffron than other saffron growing countries while its saffron is the world's finest in quality.

Miri added that the Iranian produce is a truly organic and grown in traditional way with absolutely no chemical fertilizers. Its strength as a coloring agent also makes it world famous, IRNA reported.

Fluctuation of prices in the market in the past two months will be temporary, he stated. The price of saffron ranges between fifty to seventy million rials per kilogram, the official pointed out.

The United Arab Emirates, Spain and China are major importers of Iranian saffron while Saudi Arabia, India, France, Germany and the UK are on the list of potential importers, he said.

Over nine tons of saffron were exported during March 21-April 20, 2015, registering a growth of 41 percent compared to the figure for the same period in 2014, Miri concluded.
