Wales has highest child poverty in UK

A new report has revealed that one in three children in Wales live in poverty, the highest percentage of child poverty in the UK.

Compiled by the Welsh Assembly’s communities, the report also says that some 23 percent of Welsh people live in poverty, Press TV reported.

It has also revealed that an increasing number of people are resorting to food banks as a result of the grinding poverty. The number of people referring to food banks has doubled between April 2013 and March 2014.

The report has particularly slammed the Labour-led Welsh government for not making progress in reducing poverty.

Meanwhile, the Institute for Fiscal Studies (IFS) has foretasted that child poverty in Wales could rise by about a third in the coming five years.
