Serbia keen on opening new chapter in ties with Iran

Serbia is keen on opening "a new chapter in relations with Iran" and expanding economic, political and parliamentary ties with the Islamic Republic, Serbian Foreign Minister Ivica Dacic said in Tehran on Monday.

Iran’s Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif and his visiting Serbian counterpart discussed issues of mutual interest as well as the regional and international developments, IRNA reported.

Heading a political delegation, the Serbian foreign minister arrived in Tehran on Monday.

Zarif called for expansion of cooperation between Tehran and Belgrade in all fields.

He also welcomed the readiness of Serbia to hold a joint economic commission with Iran, saying an Iranian economic delegation will visit Belgrade in the near future.

Zaris also described the talks between Iranian and Serbian officials as positive.

Dacic, for his part, congratulated Iran over its recent nuclear deal with the P5+1 group of world powers.

Dacic is scheduled to meet with a number of senior political, parliamentary and industrial officials and will visit some scientific and industrial centers during his 3-day visit to Iran.

Serbia is now the rotating president of Organization for Security and Cooperation in Europe.
