Majid Khaleqi-Soroush, the director of the event's documentary section, further said the celebration is held annually, for the public as well as cineastes, to mark the National Cinema Day.
"Each year, a large number of documentaries, short and feature films as well as animations are submitted to the fest's secretariat, of which a certain number is selected for the event."
He added the process of sifting the flicks takes about 30 days.
Khaleqi-Soroush noted that 108 movies were submitted to the event's secretariat including 32 features, 53 medium and 23 short films this year.
He added the panel is made up of eight members from the Iranian Documentary Filmmakers Association and the secretariat of the Iranian House of Cinema.
"Since the members of the jury have not submitted any film to the secretariat, they will judge the entries with greater impartiality and objectiveness. The winners will be selected by another panel of jury which has 17 members."
He said the final selection will be made during August 23-September 1, adding the winners will be announced on September 5.
"The prizes include seven crystal statues for the fest’s top flicks and four diplomas of honor for the best sound editing, sound mixing, cinematography and theme music."
Khaleqi-Soroush recalled that since research plays a very significant role in the production of documentaries, the fest's jury panel will award three crystal statues to the best feature, medium and short documentaries contending in the event's research section.
"Young directors have had a significant presence in this year's edition."
