NAM urges collective efforts for int’l peace

Addressing a United Nations Security Council open debate on behalf of the Non-Alignment Movement (NAM), Iran’s deputy ambassador to the UN called for stronger cooperation among the regional agencies and the UN for the sake of global peace and security.

On Tuesday, Gholamhossein Dehqani delivered a speech to the Security Council open debate, titled “Regional Organizations & Contemporary Challenges of Global Security,” Tasnim News Agency reported.

Speaking on behalf of the NAM 120-nation bloc, whose rotating presidency is held by Iran, Dehqani highlighted the role of regional and sub-regional arrangements and agencies in international developments.

“NAM underscores the important role that regional and sub-regional arrangements and agencies, composed of non-aligned and other developing countries, can play in the promotion of regional peace and security as well as economic and social development through cooperation among countries in the region,” Dehqani said.
