Renovation of 31 historical monuments ceded to private sector

Renovation of 31 historical monuments has been ceded to the private sector, said caretaker of the Fund for Renovation and Exploitation of Historical and Cultural Monuments.

Mohammadreza Pouyandeh added that the private sector is committed to spending 460 billion rials ($15.3 million) to renovate the dilapidated monuments.

Some 269 historical monuments in need of renovation have been identified, he said.

He put the number of identified monuments of the country at over one million, of which 33 have been registered on National Heritage List and 19 on UNESCO World Heritage List.

He said Teimareh region in Khomein, Markazi province, has valuable monuments which date back to 40,000 years.

Meanwhile, director general of Markazi Cultural Heritage, Handicrafts and Tourism Department said the First International Epigraph Seminar will be held next May.

Mohammad Hosseini added that Teymareh Epigraph Museum would be launched in Khomein in the near future.
