Iran to make Belgrade 'hub of its economy in Balkans': Official

Iran's first business and trade center — "a hub of Iranian economy for the entire Balkan region" — will be opened soon.

This was agreed during a meeting between an Iranian delegation and Serbian Deputy Prime Minister Rasim Ljajic and Minister of Economy Zeljko Sertic on Wednesday, Tanjug reported.

The Iranian delegation was headed by Iran's Deputy Minister of Industries, Mines and Trade and Head of Trade Promotion Organization Valiollah Afkhami, and the agreement was reached on the basis of the fact that economy-wise Serbia is the most important country in the Balkan region.

In a meeting with the Iranian delegation, which included representatives of state institutions and businesspeople in the fields of trade and food, textile and petrochemical industry, Ljajic and Sertic also discussed economic cooperation and ways to increase trade between the two countries.

The two sides agreed to organize a day of Serbia's economy during the meeting of the joint economic committee of the two countries in Tehran later this year.

They also agreed to ink an agreement on joint participation in markets in third countries, said a statement from Ljajic's office.
