Iranian musicians to perform at UNESCO event

Iranian musicians will take part in an international performance of a music group 'Melody for Dialogue' to celebrate the 70th anniversary of the founding of the UN cultural body UNESCO in Paris on December 22.

'Melody for Dialogue', which will be organized by UNESCO, will hold a concert to commemorate the 70th anniversary of the organization's establishment as well as its own 10th year of foundation. The City of Prague Philharmonic Orchestra, and a number of ensembles from other countries, will also perform in the event, Mehr News Agency wrote.

Musicians from Iran who are expected to take part in the event are: tar player Hamid Behrouzinia, daf (a spiritual drum usually played in religious sufi houses) player Nima Niktab in addition to performers of percussion devices.

Last year, 'Melody for Dialogue' stole the spotlight with a performance in Nanjing, China.

Behrouzinia is the conductor-cum-composer for the ensemble 'Lotus'. He has released several albums and held many concerts in Iran. In 2010, he was nominated by the House of Music for the Best Album of the Year award.

Niktab is a percussion player and a member of 'Rastak' musical band. The band has performed in many domestic and international events.
