Putin departs for Tehran to attend GECF summit

Russian President Vladimir Putin, heading a high ranking delegation, departed Moscow for Tehran Monday morning to participate in a Gas Exporting Countries Forum summit.

He is expected to meet with Supreme Leader of the Islamic Republic Ayatollah Seyyed Ali Khamenei, and President Hassan Rouhani in his visit to Tehran to participate in the GECF summit on Monday, IRNA reported.

According to reports, Putin will finalize execution of a 40 billion dollars economic agreement during his visit to Tehran.

The reports have called fighting terrorism in particular fighting Daesh as one of the major topics of Putin meetings with Iranian officials.

Russian Deputy Prime Minister Dmitry Rogozin said to reporters Monday morning that a Russian delegation will visit Iran in December to prepare the ground for increase of economic cooperation between Tehran and Moscow.

Sputnik reported that Putin and Ayatollah Khamenei will discuss such issues as the settlement of the conflict in Syria, the implementation of the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action on Iran's nuclear program and the global fight against terrorism, with the terrorist group of Daesh in particular.

The priority on the agenda of the meeting will be the issue of increasing bilateral trade and economic cooperation.

GECF is an international governmental organization of the world’s leading gas producers. The member countries together account for 67 percent of the world’s proven natural gas reserves.
