Avazpour's flicks eye Melbourne awards

Two Iranian films 'Tree of the Night' and 'Chair at the Window', directed by Foroud Avazpour, will take part in the competition section of Phoenix Film Festival Melbourne, Australia.

The flicks had earlier been screened in Fajr International Film Festival and Tehran International Short Film Festival.

In the films, the director explores social challenges as well as peaceful coexistence. Human perspective and international language of visual arts are the reason for the success of the two films in other festivals.

'Tree of the Night' is the story of human being and art and their relations.

'Chair at the Window' juxtaposes the passage of time from an old woman's perspective.

The festival is to be held from December 12-19. It will feature over 100 films from 40 countries.

The Phoenix Film Festival Melbourne is interested not just in films with potential commercial success but those with artistic merit and scope. The goal is to build a festival that will be on par with Sundance, Cannes, and other major festivals but geared to the truly independent filmmaker, actor and script writer, giving them opportunities and opening doors that would not otherwise be open to them.
