Rouhani: Terrorism not to vanish with bombs

President Hassan Rouhani said terrorism could not be defeated by use of bombs.

Talking in the opening of a gathering of Islamic world scholars and officials here on Sunday, he said terrorism could only be defeated by changing discourses, IRNA reported.

He said Iran has declared to the world from the very beginning that it is seeking a world free of violence.

He said his government has always believed any problem could be solved by sitting at the negotiating table and indulging in dialogue.

He said Iran managed to solve a long enduring problem which tended to aggravate through dialogue and use of logic to the benefit of all parties involved, the region and the whole world.

The President stressed that Iran, after 12 years of facing animosity, managed to prove to the world that the Islamic Republic is not a liar, but rather on the side of the truth.

President Rouhani said no foreign power is entitled to decide for the future of a country on behalf of a nation.

The 29th session of the International Islamic Unity Conference was launched here on Sunday and will last for three days with focus on the current crises confronting the Islamic world.

Prominent religious figures, ministers and scholars from some 70 countries are participating in the conference, organized by the World Forum for Proximity of Islamic Schools of Thought, in Tehran.

The holding of the gathering coincides with week-long celebrations in Iran to observe the Unity Week of Shia and Sunni Muslims which marks the one-week gap between recognition of date of birthday of Prophet Mohammad (PBUH) by the Shia Muslims and the Sunni Muslims.
