Pope Francis questions Donald Trump's Christianity

Pope Francis has questioned leading US Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump's Christianity over his call to build a border wall with Mexico in order to prevent undocumented immigrants entering the United States.

Pope Francis on Thursday said "a person who thinks only about building walls... and not of building bridges, is not Christian.”

In response, Trump slammed Francis and said the Christian leader has been duped by the Mexican government.

Trump also condemned Francis for publicly questioning his faith after the pope issued a statement in which he said building walls "is not Christian."

“For a religious leader to question a person’s faith is disgraceful. I'm proud to be a Christian and as president -- I will not allow Christianity to be consistently attacked and weakened, unlike what is happening now with our current president," he said.

“No leader, especially a religious leader, should have the right to question another man’s religion and faith,” he added.
