Mohammad-Reza Kargar described the previous holding of '7,000 Years of Iranian Art' exhibitions between 1996 and 2005 as valuable, noting, "In line with the new government's approach to cultural diplomacy, Iran's Cultural Heritage, Handicrafts and Tourism Organization (ICHHTO) has placed the re-holding of the art exhibition on its agenda to introduce Iran's rich history and civilization to the world."
He noted, "The first program will be held in Germany late 2016 and early 2017 together with conferences and professional meetings."
According to Mehr News Agency, the event is to feature 180 masterpieces spanning seven thousand years of Iranian art from the collections of Iranian National Museum in Tehran.
The first exhibition was held at the Kunsthistorisches Museum of Vienna in 1996 which was extended for 20 days due to the great interest of the visitors.
Success of the exposition in Austria prompted other states to call for holding the event in Germany, Belgium, Switzerland and Spain, Croatia and Portugal before the pieces returned home in June 2005.
