Vahidi: Iran must specify its role in West Asia

Head of Iran’s Center for Strategic Defense Research of the Armed Forces General Staff said the Islamic Republic of Iran should define and specify its role and targets in the regional and West Asian countries.

Speaking at the national conference on geopolitical developments in West Asia, Brigadier General Ahmad Vahidi said survey of Iran’s regional domain in geopolitical issues of the region is very important, adding, “We should look for some polarity in defense issues of the region.”, IRNA reported.

Stressing that West Asia is effective on the world strategy and processes and the world players are after playing role in this region, Brigadier General Vahidi said that Iran should specify its role among the regional countries.

He said today’s rivalries in the region will lead to strategic confrontation and noted that in confrontations regional, trans-regional and even trans-national players are playing role.

Pointing to the fact that West Asian region is undergoinh geopolitical changes, Brigadier General Vahidi said: “Emergence of new powers and fall of some powers is indicative of geopolitical transition in the region and even regional players such as Saudi Arabia which is after leadership of the Arab and Islamic world are attempting to implement unpredictable behavior without any context.”

He stressed that in all such development the international and regional players are after controlling Iran and in doing so raise several cases, including the nuclear and terrorism, adding that the Westerners are after turning Iran from a first grade power to a lower-grade power in the region.
