Renewable Energy Special Zone to be launched

Tehran, Sept 13, IRNA - Deputy Energy Minister Houshang Falahatian says a special zone for renewable energy would be launched in the country. He also says the new strategy of the Energy Ministry is based on development of renewable energy, especially solar and wind energies.

The deputy minister said one of the highly potential regions in the country for installation of wind power plants is Khaf in Khorasan region.

'To this end a number of agreements in principle have been signed for the operation of wind power plants with the investment of the private sector.'

He pointed to the establishment of at least 200 megawatt new wind power plants in Khaf from the end of the current calendar year (March 2015) up to the end of the next year.

He added that Khaf has been proposed as the special zone for renewable energies and the Ministry of Energy while approving the idea supports investment of the private sector in this regard.

Falahatian noted that according to studies conducted and statistics collected so far out of installation of one-megawatt turbines in the region, the rate of exploitation in Khaf is above 50% and on this basis installation of solar and wind energy power plants is economically beneficial and do not have environment risks.
