Zarif meets US, British counterparts in Vienna

Iranian Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif held meetings with a number of his counterparts, including US Secretary of State John Kerry, British Foreign Secretary Philip Hammond, Oman’s Foreign Minister Yusuf bin Alawi, on the sidelines of a meeting of the International Syria Support Group (ISSG) in Vienna.

Zarif and Kerry discussed the ways to effectively implement the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA), a lasting nuclear deal between Tehran and the P5+1 – Russia, China, the US, Britain, France and Germany, Tasnim News Agency reported.

In a separate meeting, Zarif and Hammond also met to talk about Tehran-London relations and better ways of carrying out the JCPOA, particularly in the field of international banking ties.

The Iranian foreign minister sat down with Oman’s Foreign Minister Yusuf bin Alawi. They held consultations on the bilateral ties and the regional developments.

Top diplomats from 17 nations resumed Vienna talks on the Syria conflict on Tuesday, hoping to reinvigorate a peace effort that has collapsed.

Kerry and Russia's Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov chaired the meeting of the ISSG.

Iran’s Deputy Foreign Minister for Legal and International Affairs Abbas Araqchi and EU's deputy foreign policy chief Helga Maria Schmid held a meeting to discuss the recent decisions made at an April meeting of the JCPOA Joint Commission.

During the meeting, Schmid gave a report on the European Union’s efforts to facilitate trade with Iran under the JCPOA.
