The festival, established in 1983, is a principal summer film festival with over 65,000 admissions every year, Mehr News Agency reported.
Over 2,500 film industry professionals from around the world and over 600 members of the press are accredited annually.
Filmfest München screens over 250 feature films, documentaries, shorts and TV movies each year.
The Cannes jury awarded Farhadi's drama 'The Salesman' with two awards this year: A prize for Best Screenplay and one for Best Male Performance to Shahab Hosseini, who plays the husband.
Another Cannes hit was 'Sieranevada' by Romanian director Cristi Puiu, who observes an extended family in their apartment for three hours in exhilarating cinematography has also been selected for the competition section. An apartment is also the battlefield in Joachim Lafosse's 'After Love', excellently cast with Bérénice Bejo and Cédric Kahn in the leads.
Another Cannes winner: 'Aquarius' by Kleber Mendonça Filho, will compete with other films in the competition section.
The 34th edition of the festival will run from June 23 through July 2 in Munich, Germany.
