President highlights role of art, culture in foiling Iranophobia

President Hassan Rouhani highlighted the significant role that the artists and cultural figures can play in the international arenas to thwart attempts to foment Iranophobia.

"There are attempts to make the world fear Iran and Iranians, and the soft power capable of countering such plot and portraying the real image of civilized Iran to the world is undoubtedly those involved in culture and art," President Rouhani said in a gathering of Iranian artists and cultural figures in Tehran on June 30, Tasnim News Agency reported.

He also noted that Iran can have good interaction with the international community and take up opportunities in the region and the world by presenting a genuine, powerful cultural image.

Leader of the Islamic Revolution Ayatollah Seyyed Ali Khamenei has also repeatedly underlined the significance of artistic activities to promote Iran's position in the world.

In March 2015, Ayatollah Khamenei called for making use of various branches of art, including cinematic projects, to introduce the great job of the Iranian people during eight years of Iraqi imposed war against Iran in the 1980s.

In June, the Leader called for measures, both by politicians and artists, to let the public know about treacherous US conduct in honoring commitments under the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA), a nuclear deal between Iran and six world powers.

One of the possible arenas for writing poems at present is "publicizing the Americans' breach of the JCPOA", the Leader said adding, "In addition to politicians, the artists, poets in particular, should let the public know about these facts."

The Leader was referring to Washington's lack of commitment to the JCPOA, a nuclear deal between Tehran and the P5+1 (Russia, China, the US, Britain, France and Germany).
