Iran steals the show at IWF junior world meet

Sports Desk For the second time Iranian junior weightlifters conquered the world.

The2016 edition of the IWF Junior World Championships started on June 25 in Tbilisi, Georgia, and ended yesterday with 454 points for Iran. The host came runner-up with 441 points and Japan took the third place gaining 423 points.

Alireza Dehqani won three medals for Iran, including two silvers and one bronze.  

The 19-year-old stood second in the clean and jerk with 207kg. Giorgi Chkheidze of Georgia lifted 207kg to earn the bronze. Russia’s Nikita Solovev snatched the gold with a 210kg record.

On Friday, Reza Beiralvand representing Iran in the 94kg category hoisted 161kg to grab the bronze.
