US open to Iranian carpet exports

Obstacles to the export of Iranian carpet to the US have been removed and the US market is now open to Iranian carpets following the implementation of the nuclear deal between Iran and the P5+1.

Isfahan Province exported handwoven carpets worth $2 million weighing 27 tons during March 20-June 20. The major destinations of the exports were the US, Kuwait, the United Arab Emirates and Qatar of which the US took in the highest share with 33 percent of the exports, IRNA reported.

Total exports of handwoven carpets stood at over 2,000 tons worth $66 million during the same period which shows a growth of 120 percent in weight and 39.8 percent in value compared to the figures for the same period in 2015 which was about 900 tons worth around $47 million.

As the biggest importer of Iranian carpet, the US had a 16.5-percent share in imports which was worth $82 million in 2009-10.

Despite the competition of many countries like China, India and Pakistan to get the upper hand in the carpet market, no country has been able to compete with Iranian carpets.
