“As Chief of Army Staff, I assure you that security of CPEC is our national undertaking and we will not leave any stone unturned to ensure its timely completion and uninterrupted success,” he said, IRNA reported.
He was addressing a gathering at the Chinese embassy in Islamabad on the occasion of the 89th anniversary of Chinese People’s Liberation Army, a military statement said.
He emphasized that CPEC is a strategic game-changer not just for Pakistan but for the entire region. “It is destined to bring significant improvement in the lives of hundreds of millions of people, besides further promoting mutual interdependence among regional states,” he said.
China-Pakistan economic corridor (CPEC) is a mega project between the two countries under which China will invest $46 billion in Pakistan. The economic corridor is about 3000 Kilometres long consisting of highways, railways and pipelines that will connect China’s Xinjiang province to Pakistan’s Gwadar port. The project is crucial for both the countries.
On Pakistan-China ties, General Raheel said 'Pak-China relationship is sweeter than the honey, higher than the Himalayas and deeper than the oceans.'
He further said the affinity of views between China and Pakistan reflected 'our common vision and shared destiny.'
The army chief said the convergence of interests of Pakistan and China makes them the most important strategic players in the region.
“Today, our mutually beneficial engagements include defese collaboration and joint production ventures. It also includes unified diplomatic front at all international platforms including the United Nations, the Association of South East Asian Nations, the Shanghai Cooperation Organization; and the splendid China Pakistan Economic Corridor,” he said.
He described China and Pakistan as partners in fight against the menace of terrorism for the common good of humanity.
“We seek enhanced regional cooperation to root out the menace of extremism and terrorism for enduring peace and stability in the region,” he said.
