Majlis speaker stresses on Iran-Russia's strategic co-op on Syria

Majlis Speaker Ali Larijani stressed that based on the Iranian Constitutional Laws, Iran has not given a military base to any foreign country.

Speaking at Majlis open session on Wednesday morning and referring to Iran’s strategic cooperation with Russia as a key ally in regional developments especially those in Syria, he said this never meant that Iran has given one of its military bases to Russia.

He rejected anything implying this meaning which might have been published by certain media.

He went on to elaborate on Iran’s cooperation with Russia over the past year on counter-terrorism activities which he said was due to the terrorism crisis in the region by some regional states as well as the US and reiterated Iran’s close cooperation with Russia in anti-terrorism campaign.

Larijani said during the period when Iran and Russia cooperated on counter-terrorism issues, it became clear to all that Iran’s measures to stop the crisis from spreading to the whole region were correct.

He said Iran shared views with Russia on Yemen issue as well and cooperated with Moscow on crisis there, but never made it possible for Russia or any other countries to have military bases in Iran.
