Islamic banking confab opens in Tehran

The 27th Conference on Islamic Banking opened in Tehran on Tuesday in a ceremony attended by Government spokesman Mohammad Baqer Nobakht, Minister of Economic Affairs and Finance Ali Tayyebnia, Governor of the Central Bank of Iran (CBI) Valiollah Seif and several high-ranking officials.

The two-day conference is being attended by experts, professors and monetary analysts, IRNA reported.

The event is mainly focused on compiling the bills on 'Iran Banking' and 'Central Bank of Iran' which seek to describe the challenges and opportunities of the banking system and the interaction of usury-free banking with international banking.

Several academics and banking officials at the local and international levels will discuss Islamic banks' experience and challenges facing the banking system in interacting with international banking regulations.

Ways to reform the country's banking infrastructures, the health of banking system, creation of entities and instruments to help forge cooperation with international banking, solutions to diversify operations and development of services pertaining to international banking are also on the confab's agenda.
