Iran’s Sarmayeh Bank blanks T. Grand in AVC club championship

Iranian professional volleyball team Sarmayeh Bank has blanked T. Grand of Chinese Taipei to chalk up a praiseworthy victory at the second round of the 2016 Asian Women’s Club Volleyball Championship in the Philippines.

On Wednesday, the Iranian volleyball squad overpowered the Taiwanese outfit 3-0 (25–14, 25–16 and 25–12) in their Group F match played at the Alonte Sports Arena in the city of Binan, about 34 kilometers (21 miles) south of the capital, Manila.

“Our players exhibited an all-around stunning performance, and believed that they could defeat the Chinese Taipei team. We went to the court only thinking of victory, which we managed to capture at last,” Iranian volleyball player Maedeh Borhani said after the match.

She added, “The fine performance of our players created a situation, which eliminated the opposite team’s winning chances and thus they could not trouble our team throughout the encounter.”

In other matches of the day, Chinese Ba'yi Shenzhen beat Thailand’s Bangkok Glass 3-2 (16-25, 25-20, 25-21, 20-25 and 15-8), NEC Red Rockets of Japan blanked Vietnamese Lien Viet Post Bank 3-0 (25-15, 25-19 and 25-13), and Kazakhstan’s Altay Oskemen hammered Foton Pilipinas of the host nation 3-0 (27-25, 25-18 and 25-21).

Sarmayeh Bank women’s volleyball team is slated to take on Altay Oskemen outfit in the final round on Friday.

The 2016 Asian Women’s Club Volleyball Championship started in Binan on September 3 and will finish on September 11.
