The prisoners, who are sentenced to jail terms by the Public and Revolutionary Courts, will be subject to the amnesty granted by the Leader, IRNA reported.
Article 110 of the Iranian Constitution grants the Leader the right to pardon or reduce the sentences of convicts upon a recommendation from the head of the judiciary.
The Judiciary Chief Ayatollah Sadeq Amoli Larijani gave a proposal for amnesty to the Leader on the auspicious occasion of Eid al-Ghadir.
The clemency, however, does not apply to all types of convicts, including those who have been sentenced for their role in armed struggle against the government, armed or organized drug trafficking, rape, armed robbery, arms smuggling, abduction, bribery and embezzlement.
