Army forces, IRGC join rescue efforts in snow-hit province

The Islamic Revolution Guards Corps (IRGC) troops, Army servicemen and Basij volunteer forces have joined rescue teams in Iran’s northwestern Ardebil Province that has been hit by heavy snowfall, a local IRGC official said.

The province’s IRGC, Army and Basij forces are fully prepared to counter the crisis caused by cold weather and snow, Commander of the IRGC in the province Colonel Shokr Abdi said on Wednesday, Tasnim News Agency reported.

Unexpected snowfall in early fall has disrupted water and power supply, blocked roads, and closed schools and universities in Ardebil for two days.

In various parts of the province, the temperatures have dropped considerably, with thick snow covering sidewalks and streets.

The IRGC commander further called for active participation of people in efforts to tackle the crisis, adding that the military forces have already joined the country’s executive organizations to deal with the power crisis and reduce damages from wintry condition.
