Iran's Gachsaran through to Asian handball semis

Iran’s Gachsaran Oil and Gas handball club secured a place at semifinals of 2016 Asian Men’s Club League Championship in Jordan.

Following the group stage of the tournament, a total of four Asian clubs found their ways to the semifinals, reported.

In Group A, El Jaish of Qatar ranked first while Iran’s Gachsaran Oil and Gas finished in the second place. Both teams cruised to the next round.

Al-Noor of Saudi Arabia and Lekhwiya of Qatar outpowered their rivals in the preliminary round to get tickets to the semifinals.

Today, the Jordanian capital of Amman will host two semifinal showdowns between two Qatari title hopefuls Lekhwiya and El Jaish as well as Gachsaran Oil and Gas and Al-Noor.

On Saturday, the Iranian side was held to a 35-all draw against UAE's Al Jazira in a close and thrilling Group A encounter staged in Amman.

Later, however, Iranians conceded a 28-37 defeat against El Jaish in their second group stage match on Sunday.

On Tuesday, the Persian side earned a sweeping 26-23 victory over Jordan’s al-Ahli to become a semifinalist.

Gachsaran Oil and Gas was pooled in Group A along with El Jaish, Al Jazira and Jordan's al-Ahli while Group B comprised Lekhwiya, Bahrain’s al-Ahli, al-Noor and Oman's Ahli Sidab.
