Iran summons British envoy over May remarks

Iran's Foreign Ministry summoned British envoy following the recent "interfering" remarks by the European country's premier about Iran.

Iran summoned the British Ambassador to Tehran Nicholas Hopton to protest remarks by Theresa May at the annual summit of the [Persian] Gulf Cooperation Council in the Bahraini capital of Manama on Wednesday, the ministry's spokesman Bahram Qassemi said on Saturday.

The Foreign Ministry said irresponsible, provocative and divisive remarks by the British prime minister is not unacceptable.

Speaking at the annual summit of the [Persian] Gulf Cooperation Council in the Bahraini capital of Manama on Wednesday, UK premier said London would help the PGCC states “push back” what she claimed to be Iran’s “aggressive regional actions”.
