Iran boasts rich genetic reserves and is among the top 10 countries in terms of plant genetic bank.

Stating the above, head of the Agricultural Research and Education Organization (AREO) said Kohgilouyeh-Boyerahmad Province plays a significant role in developing the country’s plant genetic bank.

The province is rich in agriculture, he said. Out of 20 research institutes nationwide in the agricultural, horticultural and fisheries fields, two are located in this province, he added.

Currently, one agricultural research institute is operating in Dogonbadan in Gachsaran while one fish culture research institute is functioning in the provincial capital of Yasouj, he noted.

Also, Kohgilouyeh-Boyerahmad Governor General Mousa Khademi said the research centers in the province have high potential in conducting studies on water and soil, agriculture, natural resources and herbal plants.

The province also shows promise in the fields of water resources, forest and pastures and oil, he added.

Kohgilouyeh-Boyerahmad can be among target provinces for research in the fields of agriculture, horticulture, fish culture, natural resources and herbal plants, he concluded.
