Iran wins Persian Beach Soccer Cup

Iran claimed the title of the first Persian Beach Soccer Cup on Thursday.

The Iranian squad, also dubbed "Team Melli", defeated Italy 4-3 in the final showdown to notch up its third successive victory in the tournament to finish it undefeated, Tasnim News Agency reported.

Mohammad Ahmadzadeh, Mohammad-Ali Mokhtari and Mostafa Kiani scored a brace and two solitary goals, respectively, for Iran.

The Persians pulled off a 3-1 victory against Poland in their opener and then powered past Ukraine 8-7 in penalty shootout.

Ukraine, Italy and Poland finished in the second to fourth places, respectively.

The three-day tournament was held in the southern province of Bushehr from February 14-16.

Coached by Mohammad-Hossein Mirshamsi, Iran is preparing 2017 AFC Beach Soccer Championship to be held from March 4-11.




Iran's Amirhossein Akbari was named the tournament's Most Valuable Player (MVP).

Akbari won the award for his glittering performance in the competition.

Also, Italy's Gabriele Gori became the meet's top-scorer with five goals and Ukraine’s Volodymyr Hladchenko was selected as the best goalkeeper.
