Iran, EU in talks on expanding customs, trade ties

Iran has begun talks with the European Union in the Belgium capital of Brussels to expand customs relations and facilitate trade between the two sides.

In the meeting, head of Iran's Customs Administration (ICA) Masoud Karbasian and Director General of the European Commission's Taxation and Customs Union Stephen Quest discussed the details of expanding customs cooperation as well as developing and facilitating trade between the two sides.

The two sides also pursued the outcomes of earlier negotiations on exchanging administrative cooperation agreements on customs affairs between Iran and the EU.

In the talks, the two sides announced that they are determined to develop customs ties, adding the atmosphere for bilateral cooperation is absolutely positive.

Other topics of discussion were the mode for electronic exchange of information, issues pertaining to authorized economic activists, expansion of educational and research cooperation and fostering collaborations on fighting drug smuggling as well breach of customs regulations.

The two sides called for expediting the legal processes for expanding customs cooperation and issuing relevant permits to this end.
