Iranian climber wins speed title at IFSC World Cup

Iran’s speed climber Reza Alipour Shenazandifard snatched gold at the​International Federation of Sport Climbing (IFSC) Climbing World Cup Villars 2017 in Switzerland.

On Saturday, the 23-year-old "Vertical World's Fastest Man” took part in the men’s lead competitions, and set 5.63 seconds  to claim the top position of the chart at the prestigious sporting event, the Islamic Republic of Iran Mountaineering and Sport Climbing Federation website reported.

Russia’s Stanislav Kokorin clocked 6.11 seconds to stand second and collect the silver medal. Vladislav Deulin, another contestant from Russia, received bronze.

The meet started in Switzerland on July 7 and finished the next day.

The tournament was held in women’s lead, women’s speed, men’s lead and men’s speed sections.

Speed climbing is a race in its purest form. Two contestants face each other while moving up the ice in this disciple, and the faster climber wins.
