Iran outclassed Uzbekistan 7-1 to seal the men’s futsal gold medal at the 5th Asian Indoor & Martial Arts Games in Ashgabat, Turkmenistan, on Tuesday.
Iran and Uzbekistan went into the final showpiece on the back of semifinal victories over Afghanistan and Japan, respectively, and the Iranians made it look easy in the final as once again they proved to be by far the best futsal side in the continent.
Mahdi Javid stole the show for the Asian giant as he contributed with four goals, two of which came in the first half to give Iran a 2-0 lead before the halftime.
Skipper Ali-Asghar Hassanzadeh also got on the scoresheet with a couple of second-half goals while defender Hamid Ahmadi added to Iran’s seven-goal tally in the 31st minute.
Uzbekistan managed to get a consolation through Davron Choriev.
